Liverpool v Brighton live: score, updates and line-ups

Brighton have kept pushing and drawn level on shots overall, with Vuskovic firing just over from a direct free kick and Costinha having an effort blocked, but Liverpool still lead on shots on target and the back line remains untroubled on the scoreboard. Gakpo almost added a third for Liverpool with a blocked header from a Wirtz cross before Wirtz himself went off injured, replaced by Nyoni, while Ayari's latest effort for Brighton drifted off target. It remains 2-0, with Brighton controlling territory but still searching for a way through.

Despite all that territory, Liverpool's defence has held firm and Alisson hasn't had to make a save in this spell, with the game settling into a pattern of Brighton probing without really troubling the scoreline. Yalcouyé has now come on for Chema Andrés as Brighton look for fresh legs to break Liverpool down.

Brighton have settled well after that early scare, with Costinha slotting in smoothly following Kadioglu's forced withdrawal. Verbruggen did well to keep out Gakpo's effort, but the Seagulls have edged ahead in possession and nearly levelled things up through Ayari, whose effort from Gross's pass flew just over. A scrappy but even opening quarter, with Brighton just shading the territory.

Liverpool have had the better of it since, enjoying the lion's share of possession and forcing the first real chance of the game when Gakpo's effort from the left of the box was comfortably held by Verbruggen. Brighton have yet to register a shot as the hosts look the more purposeful side early on.
