Brighton v Brentford live: score, updates and line-ups

Brighton continue to control proceedings against the ten men, nudging possession up further and adding to their corner and shot tallies - Kostoulas had a blocked effort from a tight angle, then Wieffer saw another shot blocked from outside the box. Brentford are still barely threatening going forward, and Dunk's booking for a foul on Schade was one of the few interruptions as the hosts press on for a third.

Brighton have carried on exactly where they left off after the restart, continuing to dominate possession against ten-man Brentford. De Cuyper and Kostoulas both went close with efforts that drifted just wide, while Wieffer - on for Chema Andrés - was booked for a foul shortly after coming on. Brentford are still barely getting out of their own half, with the shot count and possession split hardly shifting from before the break.

Brighton make their numerical advantage count further - Lewis-Potter concedes a penalty after fouling Vuskovic, and Gross coolly slots it into the top corner to make it 2-0. Ten-man Brentford are now really up against it heading towards half-time.

Brighton continue to dominate with ten-man Brentford struggling to get out of their own half - possession now at nearly 72% and shots up to 7-3, with Brighton registering two on target. Gómez had a header go wide from Boscagli's cross, while Vuskovic and Groß have both tried from range, the latter's effort blocked. The hosts look comfortable protecting their lead, though Brentford's defence, marshalled by Hickey and Janelt winning free kicks, is holding firm for now against the one-goal deficit.

Disaster for Brentford - Igor Thiago is sent off for violent conduct after a VAR review upgraded his initial card, leaving the visitors down to ten men already chasing Brighton's lead. Boscagli has also just gone into the book for a foul, adding to the accumulating cautions on both sides.

Against the run of play, Brighton break the deadlock - Diego Gómez curling a lovely left-footed effort from outside the box into the top corner after Brentford had just threatened through Thiago, Lewis-Potter and Ajer's header from a corner.

Brighton have made the brighter start and edged the opening exchanges, with De Cuyper heading just over from Groß's assist and a corner won soon after Ajer's early booking for a crude foul. It's been scrappy at times with Brentford yet to register a shot, though Schade did have an early offside flag. Brighton's slight dominance of possession and territory hasn't yet translated into a clear chance.
